Take 5 minutes and watch

This morning I gave a Sunday School missions report on working with the poor at Morrison Heights Baptist Church, where my good friends Tim and Stephanie Peabody are members and where Tim is the college minister. It was their Global Impact Sunday, and this was shown at the service. I thought it did a good job presenting some of the issues and sin in the world today. We should be concerned about these things not only because they are a tragedy, but because we serve a God who is deeply concerned about these things and who calls us to minister the Gospel to the poor, sick, and oppressed. Take 5 minutes and watch.

I'm not sure the accuracy of all of the statistics, but I know that the poverty statistics are very close to the latest I've read.

For those of you wanting to know more about a Christian's call to minister to the poor, needy, sick, and oppressed, here are a few books to check out: When Helping Hurts, Good News About Injustice, and Walking with the Poor to name a few. Also, check out www.chalmers.org to see what we're up to and how you and your church can and should be involved in working with the poor.

Wasn't that video fantastic? What a call to action for Christians!! Andy and I spend a lot of time thinking and talking about our call - even moreso yesterday. This is not the time to sit back and wait for someone else to do the work - there's plenty to do for all of us! Glad you were able to visit our church!! Loved seeing you there!
